Weekly Assignment, Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness (Week of April 21st)

Hi Carson Ward Family, Family and Friends,

Spiritual Preparedness...

This week I will continue quoting parts of talks given at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints 183rd Annual General Conference. Below are quotes from the Saturday afternoon session, April 6th.

First a personal story...A few weeks ago one of our children and their family had a very sad event happen in their family. While being a very stressful and sad time, because of their spiritual preparedness, they were able to handle the situation better than if they were not prepared. They felt peace, even though their world at the time was falling apart around them and many tears were shed. Because of their understanding of the Plan of Salvation, a testimony of Jesus Christ and a knowledge that families are eternal they had an inner peace that only being spiritually prepared could have helped them through this difficult time. They are doing better with the help of prayers, Priesthood blessings and a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

May these quotes from the Saturday afternoon talks of General Conference help you be better prepared spiritually...

"Make Jesus Christ the center piece in our homes....We need to lead (in our homes) in righteousness....Jesus Christ is the source of peace in this life. Make sure all our choices are made on the gospel fundamental of a Jesus Christ center home, personal and family daily prayer, scripture reading and weekly Family Home Evening....We may not receive all the answers to our prayers, but the Lord will draw close to you....The Holy Ghost will help us center our homes on Jesus Christ...follow the promptings immediately....Living an obedient life firmly abiding in a gospel centered life will bring great joy and peace....The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the source of that abundant peace."  (Richard G. Scott, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)

"Events often occur that take away our peace....Never give up on achieving the goal of peace....Hope and pray for universal peace....It is the promised gift of the Savior's mission and atoning sacrifice....His peace will ease our suffering....His peace can bolt out our hate....Peace comes from knowing who we are....The Savior's Atonement compensates all we endure and will bring us peace....The source of peace is our Savior."
(Quentin L. Cook, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)

"When we do things the Lord's way he is bound....The Lord looketh on the heart....What happens inside the home is more important than what happens outside the home....The Lord knows us and wants to help us."
(Stanley G. Ellis, Of the Seventy)

"We are defined by our moral agency....As sons and daughter of God we have a divine nature...The Plan of Happiness needs both man and woman, they strengthen and bless each other....The first commandment is to multiply and replenish the earth....How we feel about and use the power of pro-creation will effect the eternities....God desires us to be together in the light and filled with hope....The pure in heart shall see God." (David A. Bednar, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)

Weekly Assignment: 72 Hour Individual Emergency Personal Hygiene Kit...

This week add the following...

Add a bottle of "no rinse shampoo" to each Personal Hygiene Kit. You will need this type of shampoo because you do not want to use your valuable water for washing your hair. You may only need to
by one for every two people in your family. I found it at local pharmacies between $5-$7. Sometimes you can find it at discount stores like The 99 Cent Store, The Dollar Tree, The Dollar General or others in your area. When in an emergency situation having clean hair can make you feel a little better.

Story...Several years ago a major dam in Idaho broke flooding many cities below the dam. One of the women reported she would have given anything to be able to wash her hair and have lotion for her hands.
Note: Add the shampoo to each family members individual personal hygiene kit, or at least one bottle of no rinse shampoo per every two people in your household. Place the shampoo in the large plastic zip lock bag along with the tooth brush and tooth paste we added last week. Write on the bag "Personal Hygiene Kit" and the family members name. Place the kit in their Emergency Backpack along with the Food and Snack Kits.

Vegetable Gardens:

We just planted our vegetable garden a week ago. I am so excited to watch as the seeds sprout and vegetables start appearing. We planted tomatoes (some in containers and some in the ground), radishes, green onions, carrots, bell peppers, garlic, corn, cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash. It is amazing how much you can plant in a space. We are now just starting to use up the vegetables we planted last year, I froze or canned them.

How are your vegetable gardens coming along? Have you planted it yet? If no room, how about planting tomatoes or other vegetables in some type of container. Anyone can do it. The blessings you will benefit are amazing! Not only will you have the vegetables you will harvest at that time, but you can freeze and can the rest for future use!

Come on, anyone can do it! Just plant one tomato plant in a large container, set it out in the sun in your yard or a deck or a patio.

Emergency Preparedness: Great Tip...

ASAP Silver Sol Solution: What an amazing product that all households should have as a part of their food storage and emergency preparedness supplies. What is Silver Sol Solution and why should you store it? Even though it has a shorter expiration date marked on the bottle it will keep for 10 years if stored in a dark cool dry place. We have been using it in our home for several years. There are no side effects. You can take it internally or use is topically. This product is great! We keep Silver Sol in our family emergency medical kit, in our family emergency bag in our car and some in our food starge.
